Dr. Joel Roskind Retires from Active Practice to Function as a Medical Instructor
March 3rd, 2010Following a career in plastic surgery that spanned thirty years and stints in Miami and San Diego, plastic surgeon Dr. Joel Roskind has returned to New York, where he ran a clinic for many years, to instruct, advise and pursue his interest in Judaic Spirituality. He will also return to lecturing at Boston University Medical School, where he taught previously. He will also lecture in the fields of practice management and facilities accreditation.
Joel Roskind draws on a wealth of experience that includes running a large, successful practice; serving as an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF); lecturing at half a dozen medical schools and serving on a three-man plastic surgery team in the United States Navy.
Besides operating a large, successful plastic surgery practice, he also has an active interest in patient safety. Over the class of his work, he witnessed an increasing number of surgical processes moving from hospital settings to ambulatory and outpatient facilities. He observed that while cost effective, this trend also raised a number of patient safety questions. This lead him to form a long and fruitful relationship with the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF), finally becoming an inspector for that body and helping establish what is now the gold standard for outpatient facility accreditation. He is well certified to advise with such facilities to help them achieve certification.
Joel Roskind has always taken a broader view of the medical domain, and has played an active role in both regulatory and business affairs. As skyrocketing health care costs gave rise to ambulatory and outpatient clinics, Joel Roskind became interested in patient safety in these clinics, an interest that finally led him to become an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF).
Making sure patients get the best possible care in the healthiest possible environment has been a priority for Joel Roskind MD throughout his medical vocation. Although he is retired from active practice, Joel Roskind MD is looking forward to continuing to contribute to the medical area. In addition to teaching and consulting, Dr. Joel Roskind also plans to pursue a long time personal interest in Judaic spirituality.
