Taking Singing Lessons in London Will Help You Get Better Vocally

December 7th, 2009

Effective vocal instruction can get you to improve fast. I had a few lessons that changed my whole musical career. In addition, there’s a lot of instruction you can get from other places now. There are a number of singing lessons in London that will help you get better vocally.

When I was playing guitar and drums, I always loved singing in my apartment, but I never really thought it was possible for me to sing in front of everyone. I had a friend who recommended a friend for singing lessons. I called her and we set up our first appointment.

I was surprised when she started showing me how to breathe. She told me to watch my stomach expand with inhales because I need to breath from the diaphragm instead of the stomach. What does breathing have to do with effective vocal instruction is what I was wondering.

On the exhale, she had me put my tongue up against my teeth with my mouth barely open. So there was a kind of whispering sound as I exhaled slowly and controlled. Just doing this five minutes a day greatly increased my relaxation and helped me hold notes longer when I started singing again.

After this, she got me to sing notes going up the scale with her keyboard. This is something you can do on your guitar also if you wish. Just keep trying to hit the notes and find the limits of your range. Once you find these limits, you can keep practicing up and down the scale with improved technique utilizing more head voice and you will start seeing your range expand slowly.

Which Singing Instruction is Right For You

In the beginning, you’re not going to think you can go past a certain range, but I promise that you can with proper technique. No matter what range you expand to, it should never be straining your vocal chords or throat. If you’re straining, then something is wrong. Hopefully this has given you a little effective vocal instruction.

Sky Lantern at Glasto

June 30th, 2009

With another Glastonbury approaching there is one specific product that comes to mind, sky lanterns. They have, in recent years, become an integral part of any Glasto-goers experience. In an interview in 2008 the headliner’s, Kings of Leon, cited the release of sky lanterns from the Stone Circle as their enduring memory of the festival. If you do not directly release one from the tranquil Stone Circle you are likely to witness their otherworldly presence as they drift up and across the open Somerset countryside. It is no coincidence that the use of the lanterns, with their connotations of peacefullness and hope, have become intrinsically connected with the Stone Circle. This field is where festival goers seek respite in the depths of the night, sitting and chatting together around fires in the liberating spirit that remains at the heart of the festival. As is traditional with sky lanterns, a wish is made with each one released. It is a close to numinous experience to watch from the hillside of the Circle as the wishes rise across the packed festival, oblivious to the frantic crowds beneath them, up in to the sky and out of view. Watching the sky lanterns take this journey in to the clouds is a pure moment to contemplate and escape. It is one of the reasons that in spite of its ever sprawling size, Glastonbury remains unique.

Keith Urban Be Here Country Music CD Review

May 4th, 2008

Up from down under the Australian born Keith Urban continues to cement himself as a solid up and coming star with the release of his CD Be Here.

Throughout Be Here Urban distinguishes himself by easily transitioning between country, rock, pop and tinges of bluegrass, creating his own signature style. As has become his trademark, the depth and passion that he brings to his songs through the lyrics can have you in tears.

Be Here has such a great mix of songs. Everything from upbeat fun songs like Days Go By, and Better Life, to sweet romantic songs like Making Memories of Us, and the the ones that will really tug at your heart like Tonight I Wanna Cry, and Nobody Drinks Alone.

These days it’s a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs. I love every song on it and recommend it to anyone who not only enjoys country music but music in general. Urban, through his unique style, has a way of making the listener feel the lyrics.

It should be noted that Urban’s guitar playing is top notch as well. Providing stirring solo’s like that on She’s Gotta Be. Making him a really well rounded young musician.

The CD launches with a great track, Days Go By, that will definitely be heard on country music radio stations everywhere, and deservedly so. From there Urban proceeds to display why he is quickly becoming one the best in the business as he mixes his signature style throughout the collection.

Overall Be Here is an outstanding release. Definitely must have music. I give it two thumbs up.

While this entire CD is outstanding the truly standout tunes are Better Life [track 2], You’re My Better Half [track 6], and These Are The Days [track 13]. My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore […as in “Stuck On REpeat”] is track 10, Nobody Drinks Alone. Very nice!
