Aces versus Aces

Pocket aces, right? You’re a favorite against any other hand. Anybody that ends up beating you is going to have to suck out pretty, yes? You can say most any other hand is your favorite, but aces are statistically the hand you want to hold, and often the hand in any player’s repertoire that make them the most money.

Getting beat with aces hurts, sure, especially when you play them right and get them in good. Watching a player suck out on your aces when you’ve got money in will sting, but you can get over it. It’s part of the game, it’s poker. We have to learn to deal.

But what about the rare situation when you get all in with aces and find out you are up against aces? I think it’s only happened a few times in my poker online career, and usually it’s a laughing all in matter.

Out of those few times, the one time I still managed to lose the hand is still the one I can remember the most. Aces versus aces, he has hearts and clubs, and the flop comes all clubs. The turn is a club, too. And our sure-to-be split pot of $800 is pushing smiling over to him. He was a good friend too. The main word in that sentence would be was.
