Building The Perfect Virtual Reputation: Internet Marketing Can Work For You!

December 31st, 2008

For the last six years I have been living in the beautiful mountain town of Asheville, North Carolina. Three years ago I experienced what many Americans have since 9/11; I was laid off from my job and there were few prospects in sight. After nine months of unemployment and only one call back in my field I had the inspiration to go into business for myself. I was lucky enough to find a talented, intelligent woman interested in investing in a business partnership with me and we began networking with and marketing to the local community. As time passed we realized what many other small business professionals have in the past, our best bet for success was on the Internet. Online we could reach a much broader client base, which would allow us to make more money and eventually support ourselves through the business.

Publishing Articles Online

One of the first steps my business partner and I took to begin marketing our company online was to write and publish articles through a variety of web sites. These web sites ranged from industry specific sites and e-zines to general web portals. Web portals accept articles on a wide range of topics and make them available to a variety of online and offline editors. As each article was posted to a new site a link to our company web site was included, this began to increase our web site traffic and our number of leads. As our marketing plan moved forward we realized this was a tool we could teach other small business owners to use and a service we could offer to clients who wanted to increase their web site traffic. My business partner and I created a seminar and offered it at a local microenterprise organization. We also began to use this tool when consulting on web site development and Internet marketing projects. Overall, my clients have seen their web site traffic increase, along with their number of qualified leads each month. Since the services my company provides are affordable the client simply reinvests a small portion of the current marketing budget into my company. The client’s marketing budget stays the same while sales increase.

The Virtual Reputation, Is It Real?

I am not certain who first coined the term “virtual reputation”. I know I put the words together in a business meeting one afternoon and when I began to research the idea I realized many marketing professionals had made the same connection. Many people I have shared my Internet marketing ideas with have a slight aversion to the idea of a “virtual reputation”. They feel it implies a reputation that isn’t real. I beg to differ. The virtual reputation is not one of dishonesty or false representation, it is simply a reputation created by a computer network, like any other virtual experience. When others using the Internet read your articles or visit your web site they are having a virtual encounter and meeting the virtual you. They will make numerous judgments about your personality, belief system and talent. This is why a positive, well-constructed virtual reputation is essential, it can mean the difference between a sale and no sale!

Building Confidence Leads To Success!

The most important way creating and maintaining a virtual reputation can help small business professionals is that it builds self-confidence. In the virtual world your reputation is not built through face-to-face contact or phone introductions, it is built by the personal expression of your ideas, skill and feedback from others. This levels the playing field for entrepreneurs who are just starting out in the business world. It is also a great tool for those who battle with shyness, anxiety or self esteem issues. Once you have encountered encouragement and criticism of your products or services online you are more aware of your target market and you have a realistic view of how your business can be more successful. A greater sense of confidence leads to a more competitive edge on the Internet and in the three dimensional world.

The Beginnings of Sutherland

December 31st, 2008

It would be an astute observation to say Peter Sutherland is a physically robust man with strong broad shoulders having played a pivotal role in the UCD team as a prop in his youth. He played for Lansdowne and was captain there as well. A tough, rumbustious forward, his nose was broken several times. His great regret was that he wasn’t chosen for Ireland (it’s one of two - he has always regretted not becoming the European Commission president). School, college and rugby - they were the three main passions of his youth. Even now, after all the fortune he has accumulated, his home is in Donnybrook, just a mile from each, he also has a flat in South Kensington and a house near Marbella.

Sutherland was always clearly a rising star at the Dublin Bar, combining a convivial nature with a competitive streak and fierce intellect. But life as a barrister was never likely to sustain him. Sutherland was cut out for big-time business and politics, for the hazy interface of wealth and power. Back in 1981 Garret FitzGerald made him Ireland’s Attorney-General. He was just 35 - the youngest in the country’s history.

It was a time of intense political activity - and violence. He was heavily involved in the first extradition case of an IRA member to Northern Ireland. “He’s totally opposed to physical force - he’s not a traveller,” said one of his close colleagues.

It was back in 1985 that he became Ireland’s European commissioner. It was a defining moment. “Going to Brussels heralded the most significant part of my life,” he said. He was completely pro-European and became a close colleague and friend of the French EC president Jacques Delors. As well as this he was also architect of the EU’s new competition policy and to his enormous pride, he was the first commissioner to be given the Gold Medal of the European Parliament during his tenure.

But he never got the job he most coveted. Three times he was put forward as a candidate for EC president and on every occasion he was declined. What sets Sutherland apart from the rest is that he doesn’t let setbacks get in the way of whichever goal he has set his sights on. What the next success story will be for Sutherland is anyones guess.

Choosing a Florist for Your Wedding

December 31st, 2008

Have you ever wondered if what you know about wedding flowers is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on wedding flowers.

The florist that you choose for your wedding may play a significant role in your wedding so it is important to choose your florist wisely. Just a few areas where the florist plays a role in the wedding include the bouquets that are carried by the bride and her bridesmaids, the flowers carried by the flower gift the flowers the groom and his ushers wear in their lapels and the flowers that decorate the ceremony locations. In addition to all of that the florist may also design center pieces for the tables at the reception and decorate the cake with fresh flowers. The use of flowers throughout the ceremony and reception makes it critical that the couple exercise caution and choose a competent and creative florist.

One of the most effective ways to choose a florist for your wedding is to find a florist who is recommended by a trusted friend or family member. Wedding planners and others in the wedding planning industry may have a vested interest in recommending a particular florist for your wedding but a friend or family member makes their recommendations simply because they were happy with a previous performance by the florist. If you have been to a number of weddings in your area and were pleased by the floral arrangements you may want to consider contacting the host of that wedding to find out who they used as their florist. When it comes to choosing a florist, previous performance is the best indication of how the florist will perform in the future.

While the aesthetic appeal of the flowers is important, price will also likely factor into your decision to choose a particular florist. It is important to establish a budget for flowers before you meet with potential florists for your wedding. When you do meet with them get a detailed estimate and discuss what is included in the estimate that they have provided. It is also important to find out if there are any additional fees that have not been included in the estimate such a delivery charges and set-up fees. If possible try to negotiate having these fees incorporated into the estimate to avoid any unexpected charges.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

It is also important to consider whether or not the florist specializes in weddings. A florist who regularly completes arrangements specifically for weddings is much more likely than another florist to be aware of everything that is involved with being a wedding florist. They will not only know all that is required of them but they will also likely have established relationships with local venues.

Another important consideration in choosing a wedding florist is how much support they are willing to offer. Some florists may simply deliver the flowers to the destination and will not take care of setting up the flowers. You will want to find a florist that is willing to send a representative along with the delivery to ensure that the flowers are set up correctly and that they look fresh and attractive. It is ideal to have your florist remain onsite throughout the wedding and reception to ensure that there are no issues with the flowers but if this is not possible you should have a florist onsite at the very beginning of the party as minimum.

The delivery system employed by the florist is also important in determining whether or not to choose a particular florist for your wedding. Many florists employ independent contractors to take care of their delivery needs. The delivery person drives their own vehicle and operates independently from the florist. While this situation may work out very well for the florist, it could be the recipe for disaster at your wedding. It is important to remember that if the delivery personnel are driving their own vehicles then it is likely that the florist does not have a backup vehicle in case something happens to the delivery truck. However, if the florist employs their own delivery personnel who drive company supplied vehicles then the florist most likely has a contingency plan for when a vehicle breaks down.

Choosing a florist for your wedding is very important. Seeking opinions of friends and family members is one of the most effective ways to choose a qualified florist. Careful review of recommendations is another important step in choosing a florist as is understanding their payment structure.

Knowing enough about wedding flowers to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you’ve just learned about wedding flowers, you should have nothing to worry about.

Airline Plastic and Traveling Cheaply

December 31st, 2008

Flying is expensive. Add all the taxes and fuel surcharges and you are going to give yourself a head ache each time you book a flight. Things are even worse if you are flying often. Even if your company is paying for the flight, it still adds up to a lot of money and then the company’s budget will be badly hurt. So what can be done? Is there a solution to make flying less costly for both individuals and companies? Apparently so! The credit card companies and the airline companies came together and created the Airline Credit Card . What exactly can this card do for you? Basically, whenever you make a purchase on an airline credit card, points are automatically added to the card. In other cases there are discounts and cash back rewards at different retailers. All in all, points and rewards to add up and at some point, instead of having to pay for a flight, you’ve earned one. This is the way an airline thanks its frequent passengers. Where can you find such cards ? Many credit card companies offer these airline cards. A certain airline teams up with a certain credit card company or a credit card company can offer rewards for several airlines. So make sure to read the description of the card before you decide to apply for one. And if you really want to find the “power” of such credit cards, you can use your saved miles or points to get a free or discounted flight and then you can look for travel deals on hotels in a place you want to go and hence create a lovely cheap package.

How To Say More Than Words

December 29th, 2008

The study of vocalics or paralanguage deals with the non-verbal qualities of speech. These qualities include pitch, amplitude, rate, and voice quality. Linguists argue that the way in which a person says something often means more than the actual words being spoken. Paralanguage instantaneously conveys information such as gender, education, origin, mood, and our relationship with the person being spoken to. In our spoken language, only 7% of the total message is relayed through the spoken word, while 38% of the message is conveyed through paralanguage. Imagine answering a phone call from someone. If they are a close friend or family member, you can usually tell who it is without having them identify themselves. If it is a stranger on the other end, you can pick up certain things about who they are, such as sex, age, educational level, origin, and social class just by their tonal qualities of their voice.

Interpreting Paralanguage

1. Emphasizing syllables. The way you say something can completely change the meaning of a sentence depending on what word you are emphasizing. Just think when the snotty kid tells you, “Whaaaat-ever!!” It’s not only saying that she doesn’t care, but it is also emphasizing rebellious attitude as well.

2. Deepening voice. Police officers are taught to use a deep, clear voice because it carries more authority. A deep sounding voice is psychologically more believable than a higher frequency voice. Someone who lowers the frequency of their voice is expressing anger, defensiveness, or dominance because a deeper voice sounds bigger and it is linked to male masculinity and power.

3. Raised pitch. We raise the pitch of our voice to express harmlessness, submissiveness, and openness. In courtship, both men and women will increase the pitch of their voice above their normal frequency to make themselves appear less intimidating or hostile. The same behavior can be seen with friends, family, and especially when dealing with infant children.

4. Decrease in volume. A decrease in volume of the voice indicates submissiveness.

5. Increase in volume. An increase in the volume of the voice indicates anger, frustration, or a show of dominance or authority. Often when two people are arguing, each person will increase the volume of their voice to be louder than the other person; thereby, achieving a form of verbal dominance over them.

6. Speech errors. An increase in speech errors is an indication that the person is lying or not telling the complete truth.

Using Paralanguage To Your Advantage

1. Laughter. Laughter is a natural stress-reliever. Research has shown that laughter forces the body to release painkilling hormones such as endorphins, enkephalins, dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline into our system. Laughter is often contagious and will brighten up other people’s days just like smiling. It lets the other person know that they are your friend. Learning how to make other people laugh is a strong skill to gaining compliance from them.

2. Change their behavior with voice-leading. Voice-leading is a powerful technique that police use when trying to communicate with an irate subject. Often the person will be angry and they will be shouting at the officer and not making much sense. Instead of trying have a shouting match with the subject, the officer will do the exact opposite and lower his voice down to a level that is difficult to hear. This accomplishes two things: (1) the angry person needs to calm down and become an active listener to be able to comprehend and process the words (2) the officer has stepped to the person’s side instead of challenging him head-on (3) this behavior will force the person to mirror the officer’s voice (4) it shows good professionalism on the officer’s part.

3. Use a calm, clear tone of voice. To avoid sounding overtly nervous, slow down your voice rate and use a clear tone of voice when speaking. Think about what you are going to say before you say it.

4. Get rid of filler sounds. Filler sounds are the “aaahh,” “uuuumm,” “eeerrrr,” sounds that we use to fill in periods of silence during our conversation. We generally use them when we are contemplating an answer. People have been conditioned to know that a filler sound means that you are searching for an answer, so they automatically take a “mental intermission” from the conversation and might not be paying to the answer you finally come up with. A more effective way of keeping them drawn into the conversation is by keeping the silence and saying nothing. Silence makes people uncomfortable, which has the effect of keeping their minds aware of what is going on, so by getting rid of filler sounds, you can maintain a better conversation.

5. Avoid a monotone voice. A monotonous voice is boring and puts people to sleep. Instead, talk with conviction and be enthusiastic about what you are saying.

Key Points

1. Actual words make up only 7% of our communication. 38% comes from how we say those words.

2. Use a deep voice to sound authoritative and raise the pitch of your voice to sound friendlier.

3. An increase in speech errors is associated with lying or nervousness.

4. Practice on getting rid of filler sounds.

Love Quiz- Do You Allow Your Partner To Retain Their Identity?

December 28th, 2008

In love many of us have a picture of somebody ideal. We also have some expectations, rather a lot of expectations from our lover. Behavior, upkeep, dressing style, speaking style, hobbies, looks and many such character traits that are personal may get dictated by one lover to another.

This watch does not suit you. Why do you walk with such swagger? it does not look good? Why are you spending so much time talking on telephone? When will you improve your housekeeping? Please improve your dress sense. Look at others, how well they keep themselves. A lover can have his/her own idea about the beloved and try to mould the beloved accordingly. They rob the freedom from their lover. Is that love? Will this be loved and liked by the partner? Will this not affect the relationship?

You fell in love with an individual with many pluses and many minuses. After knowing all of them, you decided to build a relationship. After developing the relationship, you want your lover to change in many ways. Is that not breaking the unspoken promises? By demanding changes, we make our lover feel inferior. By demanding changes, we irritate our lover. We bring down the quality of love. How can you expect to be loved by someone who is getting regular instructions of change from you? You cannot expect love. But many of us do this consciously or unconsciously. We kill the beauty of love by this.

All of us have their freedom to be what they are. We should leave them as they are and focus only on love and relationship. That will help us live a fruitful life that is pleasant.

The Best Time To Get Married

December 28th, 2008

Before you do anything else planning your wedding you must set your wedding date. It is a fun project, but be prepared to be challenged. Determining the best possible wedding date sounds easier than it is. Prior to you making your decision, there are many events and significant dates to take into account. The day you get married will be determined by factors such as venue availability, holidays, school schedules, who can attend, and many more.

More or less, there is 12-18 months between the time of engagement and the wedding day. Since there are so many parts to planning a successful wedding, one year may not be enough time for many. Before setting your date for the big day, you have to consider the schedules of everyone important to you. If you want the most important people in your life to attend your wedding, you must consider their schedule. Business assignments, birthdays, graduations, vacations, and other events may prevent people important to you attending your wedding day.

Getting married during the hottest wedding season has many challenges. It is not only more difficult to find available vendors and venues; the prices are normally higher too. Consequently, be prepared to pay premium for reception sites, photography services, flowers, limos, etc. In addition to hire costs, you have to consider challenges based on availability. Your dream location may not be available on your dream date, so don’t fall in love with a venue until you have secured it for your date.

May through September are among the busiest months for weddings. If you can, consider getting married one of the off months. November through April gives you more opportunities to choose reception venues. In addition to having more options, you are going to be in much better position to negotiate a better price. During the slower months, you are bound to get better service because more vendors are competing for your business.

If you are going to get married on a Saturday, be prepared to compete with many other brides for the same venues and services. Saturday is the most convenient day for your invitees, but it means you have to deal with scheduling challenges and hire costs. Fridays and Sundays are considered the next best days and are still much more convenient than other days.

There is no wedding date without its challenges, and there are sure to be pros and cons to any possible date. Your challenge is to consider the best possible wedding date based on your needs and desires.

The Health Benefits Of Regular Exercise

December 26th, 2008

I am sure that most people realise that there are many benefits of exercising on a regular basis, most of these people however still choose not do so. This article gives information on how our health can benefit from this exercise which hopefully will encourage more people to start.

I am one of the many people who basically finds it hard to gain any inspiration to exercise. I have over the past couple of years started a fitness routine and have not only enjoyed it(to my surprise) but have never felt so healthy.

It is a strange situation, the thought of starting the exercise is like a choir, but afterwards I feel brilliant. Despite this, I then find it hard to begin to exercise again on the next day. It is weird!

The benefits of exercise:

Helps to lower levels of stress

Helps to improve posture

Helps people to sleep

Helps you to gain stronger muscles

Increases heart and lung efficiency

Lowers the risk of heart disease and lung disease

Helps overall circulation

Helps to reduce blood pressure

Helps people to lose weight

Helps to reduce depression

Helps to reduce cholesterol levels

Helps to reduce symptoms of arthritis

As you can see in the above the list, there are many reasons as to why people should start to exercise. These are only a few out of many health benefits I could mention.

On a personal front, I have found that by exercising on most days, helps me to manage my stress levels. I am by nature a person who is quite anxious and even paranoid, exercising helps me to manage this negative part of my brain and helps me to see things in a much clearer way.

I am also somebody who basically loves food. This exercise is a great way of keeping my weight down, a form of diet which lets me eat exactly what I want.

Depression has been a regular feature of my life, however since starting my fitness regime, I do not think I have been depressed once.

Even though the thought of this exercise does not exactly fill me with joy, I will continue to force myself to do it as the benefits are huge.

I would strongly advise other people to also start exercising. I hope that they find it as rewarding and beneficial as I have.

Procure Mens Swimwear Online

December 25th, 2008

In this day and age loads of people prefer to find their swimwear on the Web; purchasing online is a very simple & fitting way to shop in the peace of your own house. Find eye-catching and sexy bikinis at great prices from designers such as Livia, Verde Veronica, Sunflair, Lola Luna, Phax and Sielei.

It is important to make sure while buying swimwear on the World Wide Web that it fits you properly. When you acquire swimwear online always double check that the shop offers a decent quality sizing diagram that gives all of the measurements you need. With the assistance of a sizing diagram one can guarantee to obtain a swimsuit or bikini that fits rightly, reducing the necessity to swap for another size. The Majority of the online swimwear shops don’t permit an exchange of goods with this in mind it is typically always better to choose an online shop where exchanges are allowed. Some retail shops will accept the returns of swimwear if the tags & the original packaging are also returned along with it.

Swimwear is a common aspect of the summer; yet a substantial majority of full-figured females feel daunted at the prospect of shopping for swimsuits and bikinis that fit correctly. These women even consider wearing caftans by the swimming pool or at the beach rather than looking unappealing. Designers & shopkeepers have indentified the fashion problems of the overweight woman, and are beginning to feature a wide mixture of stylish bathing suit designs in bigger sizes, and the best place to find such swimwear is to get swimwear on the Internet.
